Hendra Holiday Park

We love holidays with our children and we love exploring the countryside so we were delighted to be invited to stay at Hendra Holiday Park in Newquay

Being in Newquay, Hendra Holiday Park is perfect for sightseeing, sunbathing, surfing, shopping or just simply driving around seeing the wonderful local attractions.

The drive to Cornwall is a really nice journey, with plenty of straight roads, and plenty of service stations to stop at when your children start to ask for food, or you feel like you need to take a break. And of course, no trip to Cornwall would be complete without slowing down to see Stonehenge enroute through Somerset.

Hendra Holiday Park really is a lovely, family friendly, tidy holiday park – there are facilities for all ages, from babies through to teenagers – we took our three children along – aged 10, 15 and 17 – and we were pleasantly surprised to see so much on offer for all our children.

For the young ones Henry’s Playloft is a new indoor play facility for children up to 10 years, a cool skate park for the children to ride their scooters and skateboards in, they can take part in many activities such as Archery, Scuba Diving, Segway tours, Bush Survival, Football Academy, Pirate Treasure Hunt, Dance Academy, Water Polo and Lane Swimming at Oasis.

We arrived after the reception had closed, but it was easy to call the night guard and he gave us our mobile home keys and showed us the way.

We had been given one of the new Porthminster mobile homes to stay in, which are new for 2018 and is one of the new Premium range of holiday homes – these offer beautifully styled furnishing and interiors with a seaside theme.

As soon as we opened the door of the mobile home, even though it was late at night, we were totally in love with the space we had, the airy feel and the lovely, clean inside.

The benefits of staying in the Porthminster mobile home, are that you get free linen and beds made up on arrival.
The added benefits which help to make your stay even more special, include:
32” flat screen wall mounted TV with Freeview
Free linen and beds made up on arrival
DVD/CD player and music device ‘dock’
Fully centrally heated and double glazed
Separate dining area
Fully fitted kitchen with fridge freezer and microwave
Ensuite facilities in 2-bed options
Lift up double bed for extra storage
Electricity and gas

We had selected to check in a day early, leaving us full days for Monday to Friday to make the most of our stay, including fitting in as many visits to the Oasis Fun Pool, and visiting a few places during our stay.

The Oasis Fun Pool really is fantastic for kids of all ages – there are three fabulous water flumes – the fast and furious high speed aqua whiz flume, the exciting wet & wild 265ft super flume, and the fun for all gentle fun slide.
The Indoor Pool contains a river rapid ride, water cannon and geyser for a real soaking, then get drenched under the giant tap, fountains and waterfalls too.

If you want to sit and relax while the children swim – there are a number of sunbeds which you can lie down on while the children enjoy the pools and flumes.

On our second day we visited The Eden ProjectThe Eden Project is a wonderful place to visit, with two biomes containing many plants in two areas – Rainforest and Mediterranean.
You could easily spend a whole day wondering round the biomes, looking at the wonderful array of plants, showing which plants thrive in each area, and looking at how the plants are used.
Feel the tropical heat in the stunning Rainforest Biome and experience four of the world's rainforest environments: Tropical Islands, Southeast Asia, West Africa and Tropical South America.
With the awe-inspiring domes and enormous trees towering above you, you can follow the path deep into the vast indoor jungle and find surprises around every corner.

On our third day – our children wanted to visit the Oasis Fun Pool as many times as we could fit in, so on our third day we spent the morning in the pool, enjoying the flumes.

On our fourth day, we visited Flambards Theme Park – We had heard of Flambards Theme Park, but never had a chance to visit – so on our fourth day we visited Flambards Theme ParkFlambards Theme Park is a lovely family run theme park in Helston.
It is a great family fun day out with plenty of great things to do – the sky-high thrill rides, the undercover soft play area, the Jurassic Journey and uncover fossils in the Dino Dig, the life-size Victorian Village and Britain in the Blitz.
My children's favourite were the petrol powered go-karts – my youngest and I shared a go-kart, and my eldest drove his own and we raced each other round a great track.

We spent our last full visiting Newquay town centre and Fistral Beach – this is the home of surfing – it was a tad chilly on the day but we braved the wind and my youngest took his shoes off and paddled whilst my eldest two did some filming. We wandered into Newquay Town centre, to browse the many shops, including surfing shops, and enjoyed a Cornish Pasty.

A really lovely place to visit is St Nectans Glen – this is an area of outstanding natural beauty.

You can walk to the Waterfall & Hermitage through an ancient woodland – and you can walk up close the the waterfalls – there are welly boots available to use whilst you walk around the waterfalls.

My wife and our two boys decided they would like to explore to they went off and my daughter and I stayed behind in the lovely cafe and enjoyed a well earned drink.

If you like to treat yourself – there are plenty of places to eat and drink at Hendra Holiday Park – The Terrace Bar & Restaurant serve some lovely food and we enjoyed a lovely meal here – and then went to watch a production of The Wizard of Oz, whilst relaxing with a nice cool drink – my youngest loved the Slushie and my wife and children enjoyed the popcorn and candy floss.
Mario’s Pizzeria bar and takeaway – here you can enjoy a delicious stone-baked pizza, and either sit and enjoy it or take it back to your mobile home – there is a a playground for the children close-by to the Pizzeria.
Fish & Chip Shop takeaway – my wife's favourite – especially on holiday is fish and chips – we treated ourselves to some lovely fish and chips in our mobile home.

On our final day, as we had to be out of the mobile home by 10am, we got up early, packed the car and headed for the Oasis Fun Pool for a final time.

For any essentials that you need to purchase while on holiday – the Supermarket is a lovely, well stocked park market, which makes it easy to buy those essentials you may have forgotten, or to treat your children to an ice cream.
If you need to do a big shop – there is a Morrisons Supermarket 2 minutes drive away.

We really cannot fault Hendra Holiday Park – from the flower lined paths, the clean and tidy play areas, the facilities available for children and adults, the location and the feeling that you are being looked after by anyone you meet or speak with – it is a lovely holiday destination, with a selection of mobile homes to suit every budget.
