We have just launched a competition to find the best young sports journalist in the UK aimed at children aged 12-14.

The initiative is championed by Global Ambassador Franz Beckenbauer and aimed at encouraging active participation in football amongst the younger generation whilst remembering the eight principles of Football For Friendship: traditions, peace, friendship, victory, equality, health, devotion and fairness. The competition entry requirements reflects this and requests entrants to interview a peer about what football means to them and how these principles relate to their football experience.

Entries will be shortlisted and the winner will be selected from our panel of judges who include:
• Simon Cooper, Head of Sport for Greater London Assembly
• Peter Clayton, Chief Executive of Middlesex F.A.
• Paul McCarthy – Former chairman of the Football Writers Association

The winner will be flown to Lisbon and will represent the UK against finalists from 15 other nations, competing to be crowned Europe’s best young sports journalist at the Football For Friendship Forum taking place 23-25th May. In addition to this they will also attend the 2014 UEFA Champions League Final and have their article published in a leading sports journal publication.
