Fans of the iconic BBC children’s show pay homage to Postman Pat ahead of the opening of CBeebies Land

33 Postman Pat’s – one for each year the show has been aired on British televisions - descended on Alton Towers Resort yesterday to pay homage to one of the nation’s most iconic children’s characters ahead of the opening of CBeebies Land in May.

CBeebies Land is a new 5 acre area of Alton Towers Resort that will feature some of the UK’s best-loved characters and shows such as Something Special, In the Night Garden, Tree Fu Tom and Postman Pat.

Postman Pat’s Parcel Post ride within CBeebies Land will see children become part of The Special Delivery Service. Through problem solving and interaction, the attraction lets children take the controls of Postman Pat’s van on his delivery route through Greendale, picking the right parcels to deliver to the village’s favourite residents as they drive along.

Postman Pat first aired in 1981 and has been a staple of British television ever since. The character has seen television shows, toys, books and stage shows produced; but this is the first permanent themed ride around the character.

Lisa Gallier, one of the parents of the children photographed, commented: “My boy is four years old and is the biggest Postman Pat fan you could imagine. Having the chance to come here to Alton Towers Resort today and dress up as Pat with all the other children is a dream come true for him – we will be one of the first to visit once the attraction is open.”

CBeebies Land will include rides, immersive play areas, live experiences and character appearances and will be a fun and safe environment for preschoolers to play and learn.

Katherine Duckworth, Head of Consumer Marketing Alton Towers Resort, commented: “At Alton Towers Resort we strive to deliver a magical experience for families of all ages. Postman Pat’s Parcel Post is one of 12 themed attractions within CBeebies Land that will delight the youngest members of any family. Judging by how excited the children were today we’re on to a real winner, and can’t wait to open the attraction on 24th May.”

Marcus Arthur, Managing Director UK at BBC Worldwide added: “We are thrilled to be working with Alton Towers Resort and immersing the UK in a land full of some our favourite characters. We wanted someone we could rely on to treat these much-loved television shows with the respect, authenticity and care they deserve – and Alton Towers Resort is the best possible partner.”
